For most of my life I have had an avid interest in Astronomy and in my early years it occupied most of my time, even into my late teens. Whilst I still take an interest it takes up far less of my time these days. Music has always played a large part of my life one way or another too. From about the age I could reason and no doubt even before then I was interested in music. Curiously I have never liked listening to music whilst I was working, something most of my contemporaries being the opposite. From simply listening to music I eventually became interested in playing an instrument. That was partly due to the fact that I was engaged in children’s work at church and they really needed live music to sing along to. The other reason was I had always wanted to play but never seemed to get around to it. Most of my time was spent doing other things. Soon after picking up the guitar I found an aptitude for writing songs, most of which are Christian. For many years previously I had written poems, some good, some not so good but I always felt that I should write everything down whether good or bad. After I got married I took to photography, nothing adventurous but I simply liked taking pictures, mostly scenic in nature as I love the beauty of Nature and its wild places. I soon got bored with all that though and memories of places visited were confined to the brain rather than a photographic album. Nowadays photographs are stored as digital images to be recalled anywhere at any time if so desired. I gave up on photography many years ago although back in 2003 I took some lovely shots around my town one bright and early Sunday morning when hardly a soul was about (They are shown on the Southport page above) and of course there have been the occasional pictures taken in and around my house for the purposes of this blog but other than that, nothing. None of these things are an obsession with me in that I do not spend hours on end indulging in them. I do spend an hour or so almost every day playing my guitar, partly for practice but always out of enjoyment. I do many things in life but none of them have such a grip upon me that they take up all of my time at the expense of everything else. An interest, a hobby should remain that I feel, otherwise we might miss out on something else we might take a fancy to.
